5Mpixels camera employs polarisation to reveal details

Details that other sensors are not able to detect can be seen using the uEye CP camera, which has been developed by Imaging Development Systems (IDS). It has an IMX250MZR 5Mpixel sensor from Sony with integrated on-pixel polarisers. The uEye CP camera ensures better object detection in cases of low contrast or light reflections, says IDS. They also provide a convenient way of detecting fine scratches on surfaces, or the stress distribution within transparent objects.

Two interfaces, USB3 Vision and GigE Vision are available. Using polarisation filters, the sensor generates an image with four polarisation directions in a single image. Based on the intensity of each directional polarisation, the polarisation angle and the degree of polarisation can be determined. This allows it to be used for example, for checking residues on surfaces before further processing, or for removing reflections for traffic monitoring.

The uEye CP camera is compact, measuring 29 x 29 x 29mm.  The patented housing design accommodates screwable cables, which ensure a reliable electrical connection.

The industrial camera manufacturer, IDS Imaging Development Systems, develops USB, GigE and 3D cameras with a choice of sensors and variants. The cameras are intended for use in non-industrial and industrial sectors in the field of equipment, plant and mechanical engineering. In addition to its CMOS cameras, the company has expanded its portfolio with vision app-based, intelligent cameras. The image processing platform IDS NXT is programmable and versatile, says the company.

Since its foundation in 1997 as a two-man company, IDS has developed into an independent, ISO-certified family business with more than 300 employees. The headquarters in Obersulm, Germany, is both a development and production site. With branches in the USA, Japan, South Korea and UK and other offices for international representation.
