AEC-Q200-qualified inductors are designed for choke coils or noise filters

Automotive power inductors in the LCXH series are AEC-Q200-qualified wire-wound ferrite power inductors from Taiyo Yuden. There are 64 inductors, in six sizes in the range. They can be used as choke coils or noise filters in power supply circuits for automotive body systems and information systems such as infotainment electronic control units (ECUs).

The LCXH series has the same sleeveless structure as the company’s LCXP and LCXN series (formerly the NR series S-type), which have been used in consumer and automotive products. Building on these inductors’ materials technology and structural design, the company has improved the structure for increased flatness for mounting and to facilitate automated optical inspection (AOI) during the manufacturing processes.

The increased number of ECUs, particularly in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), means that more power supply circuits are required, boosting demand for power inductors used inside them. In addition, camera-based visual inspections and mounting inspections with an x-ray inspection system are used to evaluate the reliability of soldering in vehicle manufacturing processes, which requires power inductors to have electrodes structured to adapt to these inspection systems.

Taiyo Yuden has developed the sleeveless structure for inductors and said it has advantages in terms of compact size as well as high current capacity. The LCXH series of inductors ranges from 3.0 to 6.0mm square. This, said Taiyo Yuden, is sufficient to satisfy demand for use in various devices comprising automotive body systems and information systems such as infotainment ECUs.

The LCXH inductors are produced in the Taiyo Yuden facility in the Philippines.
