Aitech uses Nvidia’s Jetson in GPGPU system for critical real-time image recognition
Enhanced data and image processing is accessed for military intelligence, says Aitech Defense Systems, via its next-generation A176 general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU). The A176 incorporates the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 system-on-module (SoM).
The A176 Cyclone GPGPU supercomputer was launched in 2016, and Aitech’s latest high-performance embedded computer (HPEC) uses the Jetson TX2 to provide twice the performance of its predecessor, or run at more than twice the power efficiency, while drawing less than 7.5W of power.
The new A176 features the same fanless, conduction-cooled design and measures only 25.5 cubic inches, delivering high performance in a small form factor (SFF) HPEC system, says Aitech.
The Jetson TX2 increases the power to performance ratio and, according to Dan Mor, product line manager, Aitech Defense Systems: “The industry hasn’t seen this type of processing in a compact form factor to date – it’s truly redefining what is possible.”
In addition to incorporating the new NVIDIA Jetson TX2 module, the A176 now supports more hardware I/O and software options (1553, ARINC 429, camera link frame grabber), allowing even faster integration to save development time and money.
The internal microSD storage enables more design flexibility to scale the supercomputer to more complex compute-intensive applications. This includes data convolutions and transpositions, image and data manipulation, application of digital filters, image and frame object edge detection, and image recognition and data analysis.
Since 1983, Aitech has provided rugged commercial and military embedded computing solutions for high-profile projects, including many for defence and space programmes. It also introduced the first conduction-cooled, Mil-spec VMEbus boards (1984) and now offers VMEbus and CompactPCIboards, mezzanine cards, power supplies, enclosures and fully integrated harsh environment computer sub-systems. It is the only COTS supplier to maintain true Mil-spec temperature range for selected PowerPC based products and multi Gbyte mass flash memory on a single board. It offers space-qualified, radiation-tolerant COTS CompactPCI boards, high speed Ethernet and serial communications boards.
