Amphenol introduces MPO field TV connector for optical links
A multi-fibre push on (MPO) TV connector released by Amphenol Socapex. It brings robust performance and high density capability for optical links in harsh environments.
The MPO field connector enables users to transform a standard MPO patch cord into a robust connector designed to resist the harshest environments. The 12 or 24 fibre channels are integrated into 28mm diameter 38999 metal shells, with tri thread coupling mechanism. The connector is IP68 sealed when mated and also exhibits shock and vibration resistance.
The MPO patchcord is integrated into a metallic plug based on MIL-STD-38999 Series III, shell size 13 Military connector, to protect it from shocks, dust and fluids. There is no requirement for field termination, added Amphenol Socapex.
The MPO field TV connector combines the speed and density of well-known MPO / MTP fibre optic connectors using MT ferules, with high resistance of MIL-DTL-38999 Series III Military shells. Typical applications are in harsh environments such as high speed embedded network backbones for battleships, armoured vehicles or airplanes and trains, data centres in harsh environments, trackside measuring and inspection systems for trains, high resolution real time video, passenger entertainment.
No tool or field cabling are required. Amphenol explains that the connector design allows anyone to transform a standard MPO Patch cord or more complex assembly into an harsh environment connector very easily.
