Andes and IAR Systems collaborate to accelerate automotive IC design

Two companies, RISC-V processor core provider, Andes Technology, and embedded software developer, IAR Systems, claim to help automotive IC designers accelerate time to market for automotive SoCs.

IC design companies from Europe and Asia have adopted AndesCore RISC-V automotive CPU IP and IAR Systems’ functional safety-certified development tools for RISC-V to deliver a robust design methodology according to ISO 26262. This accelerates time to market for customers by shortening the rigorous certification process, explained IAR.

The AndesCore automotive CPU is a functional safety enhancement edition of the RISC-V core, N25F. To achieve automotive functional safety, the core is meticulously designed to prevent systematic failures and it is controlled by product safety mechanisms to avoid random hardware failures.

IAR Embedded Workbench for RISC-V is a development toolchain which includes the IAR C/C++ Compiler and a comprehensive debugger.

The first AndesCore automotive RISC-V CPU is expected to be certified by SGS-TÜV in the first half of this year.

The functional safety edition of IAR Embedded Workbench for RISC-V is certified by TÜV SÜD according to 10 standards, including ISO 26262. IAR Systems guarantees support for the sold version for the longevity of the customer support contract, validated service packs and regular reports of known deviations and problems.

Andes is a founding premier member of RISC-V International. The company supplies low-power 32/64-bit embedded processor IP. Its fifth-generation AndeStar architecture adopted the RISC-V as the base. Andes’ V5 RISC-V CPU families range from 32- to 64-bit cores with DSP, FPU, Vector, Linux, superscalar, and/or multi-core capabilities.

IAR Systems supplies future-proof software tools and services for embedded development. Established in 1983, IAR Systems is headquartered in Uppsala, Sweden and has sales and support offices all over the world. Since 2018, Secure Thingz, the global domain expert in device security, embedded systems, and lifecycle management, is part of IAR Systems Group.
