AOZ6605 EZBuck DC/DC regulator has enhanced light load efficiency: Alpha and Omega Semiconductor has launched a 5A EZBuck DC/DC regulator with ultra pulse energy mode (U-PEM). The AOZ6605 synchronous buck regulator has enhanced light load efficiency and lower output voltage, says Alpha and Omega.
The AOZ6605 has pulse width modulation (PWM) switching frequency of 650-kHz and input voltage range of 4.5 to 18V. The regulator is designed for consumer, networking and industrial applications such as LCD TVs, set-top boxes, cable modems, and power supplies.
Leveraging Alpha and Omega’s co-package EZBuck design, the AOZ6605 integrates a 55-mOhm high-side and 12-mOhm low-side MOSFET, and provides 5.0A of continuous output current at over 90 per cent efficiency. The AOZ6605 maintains 86 per cent efficiency while in 10-mA light load operation.
When operating in low output current conditions, the AOZ6605 will operate in an ultra pulse energy mode (U-PEM) to achieve high efficiency. Under heavy load steady-state conditions, the AOZ6605 will operate in fixed frequency and continuous-conduction mode (CCM), says Alpha and Omega.
Alpha and Omega’s latest generation of 5.0A DC/DC buck converter reduces standby current and improves light load efficiency to minimise standby power consumption. With an output voltage adjustable down to 0.6V, AOZ6605 becomes more intuitive and a more applicable DC/DC solution, says the company.
The AOZ6605 is immediately available in production quantities with a lead-time of 12 weeks.
