Belden meets broadcasters’ demands for more bandwidth

At this month’s IBC 2019 (13 to 17 September) in Amsterdam, Belden will introduce a multi-fibre push on (MPO) connector that is rugged and easy to connect and which delviers high speed signals for the ever-increasing bandwidth requirements of the entertainment industry.

The rugged device delivers high bandwidth such as 8K over very long distances, says Belden, making it suitable for live events such as sports and entertainment. The system is versatile and suitable for Ethernet/IP up to 100G and SMPTE/HD.SDI and UHD.SDI for transmission of pure data and/or video.

Designed for use in dusty and harsh environments, it is claimed to significantly shorten installation time and delivers a high number of mating cycles for long-term use in field applications. The use of fibre cables reduces weight and cost compared to copper-cable options and, at the same time, avoids EMI issues.

The system consists of a robust, all-metal housing that contains two or four MPOs and is terminated to a Micro TAC Fiber cable with 24 or 48 strands. A 19-inch rack-mount 1U fibre panel for MPO connectivity at the back distributes the signals up to 48 LC connectors at the front.

There is a single aluminium-hard-anodised hermaphroditic housing with two or four MPO-12/APC (24 or 48 fibre) Base12 for quick connection, IP68 housing for guaranteed water resistance and 9/125 bend insensitive single mode fibre for long distance, high bandwidth connectivity, micro tactical fibre cable with a black halogen- free polyurethane jacket. Repeated flexing, pre-term micro TAC fibre cable is future-proofed for 10/40/100G and 1U loaded fibre panel with direct connection to tactical connector (rear) and LC duplex (front) and there is simple port identification at the panel through flipped labels.

Belden’s portfolio spans LAN, data centres, building automation and security and access control to meet the mission-critical network infrastructure needs of industrial, enterprise and broadcast markets.
