Binder revises material and manufacturing process to upgrade quality of connectors

Materials and manufacturing processes have been reassessed at binder and the company has made changes to the 712 and 702 connector series to upgrade quality with unchanged application properties, says the company.

Binder has revised its manufacturing process of its sub-miniature circular connector 712 and 702 series.

The company is converting processes from the current M9 connectors to ones with die-cast sleeves. The conversion is expected to be completed by Q4 2021. The new die-cast sleeves improve the safety and quality features while leaving the application properties unchanged for customers, says binder. The improved connectors are 1:1 compatible with the previous M9 IP67 sub-miniature circular connectors.

The company is also implementing increased safety features. The product change has already taken off in binder’s production department and is targeted at all connectors of the 712 and 702 series cable connectors and flange connectors from two to five pins. The M9 sub-miniature circular connectors are used in many application areas – from camera systems and pneumatic control systems to sensors.

In the current manufacturing process, a drawn tube was pressed into shape, but this will be replace with a new zinc die casting process. This provides an increase in the safety and quality standards for two to five-pin connectors; it has already proved successful for the production of connector versions with seven and eight pins, reports binder.

According to binder, the optimised manufacturing processes result in 712 and 702 series circular connectors with a reliable die casting process that has been established for many years and which provides reliable properties and advantages, in particular in terms of engineering and dimensions. In addition, safety during installation is improved, claims binder.

For current users of the M9 IP67 sub-miniature circular connectors, there are no changes; they are 1:1 compatible.
