Buck regulators provide scalable power for 48V to PoL applications
The first in a family of 20A 48V buck regulators, the PI3525-00-LGIZ is a higher current addition to the Cool-Power ZVS buck regulator portfolio from Vicor.
It enables scalable power options for 48V direct to PoL applications. The PI3525-00-LGIZ is a 5V output regulator, supplying up to 20A, packaged in a 10 x 14mm LGA SiP.
While it offers the same features as the company’s existing 48V Cool-Power ZVS buck regulators, the PI352x portfolio extends performance by delivering twice the power of the PI354x regulators using only a 40 per cent larger package, says the company. The PI3525-00-LGIZ requires only an output inductor and minimal passives for a cost-effective design that consumes less than 740mm2 of PCB real estate. It is designed to be paralleled in combinations of up to three regulators, and can be scaled to support applications with even higher load currents.
The PI352x family addresses the growing need for 48V direct to PoL designs for use in lighting, communications, automotive equipment, and data centre applications.
A 3.3V, 21A model, the PI3523-00-LGIZ and a 12V, 17A version, the PI3526-00-LGIZ, will be announced later to complete the line-up. They will also be available in the 30 to 60V input range and offered in a 10 x 14mm package.
