COM Express module is based on Intel Xeon processor

The first COM Express Type 7 Basic Module from Axiomtek is based on Intel’s Xeon Processor. The CEM700 offers scalable processor options from the 16-core Intel Xeon D-1577 processor to the four-core Intel Pentium D1519 processor (codename: Broadwell DE).

The COM Express Type 7 module has two 10GBASE-KR channels and supports two DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM slots for up to 32Gbyte system memory. It delivers powerful server class performance in a small form factor of 125 x 95mm.

Axiomtek explains that its CEM700 is suitable for integration into compute-intensive and space-constrained applications which need high data and network throughputs, such as edge computing, microserver, data transmission device, and other networking fields.

In addition to the 10GBASE-KR interfaces, there is an NC-SI (network controller sideband interface) for remote management to fulfill server application demands. The Intel Broadwell DE-based module has a wide operating temperature range of -20 to +70 degrees C (or optionally -40 to +85 degrees C).

To enable fast turnkey evaluation, Axiomtek also provides CEB94701, the COM Express Type 7 baseboard to operate with CEM700. Customers can use it to emulate the functionality for software development and hardware verification.

The CEM700 is powered by a server-grade processor with up to 16-core scalability and up to 32Gbyte DDR4 memory. “Its high-speed interfaces and extreme performance increases the flexibility for building up Industrial IoT applications which are in need of multi-tasking, multi-threading or video rendering,” said Seamus Su, product manager of Product PM Division at Axiomtek.

The COM Express Type 7 module comes with an array of I/O connectors including two SATA-600 interfaces, two 10GBASE-KR ports with Intel 10G Ethernet controllers, one Gigabit LAN port with Intel i210 Ethernet controller, four USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, one LPC, one SPI, one I2C, two serial TX/RX and 4-IN/OUT DIO port. The module is expandable with one PCIe x16 Gen3, one PCIe x8 Gen3 and eight PCIe x1 Gen2 for volume data transmission. A watchdog timer helps detect and recover from malfunctions. Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 is also supported to provide efficient hardware-based data protection.
