Compact Z transponder coils are for automotive applications
Z-axis transponder coils for passive entry, passive start (PEPS) car access systems have been announced by TDK.
The Epcos transponder coils in the B82451L E402 series measure 7.7 x 7.4 x 2.65mm. There are seven transponder coils covering an inductance range from 1.0 to 10.0mH. Depending on the type, the transponder coils feature a sensitivity of between 7.0 and 23mV/µT at 125kHz. The Q factor of the new components is between 50 and 58.
Construction is an injection-moulded plastic baseplate and laser-welded connections. The robust components are also qualified according to AEC-Q200.
The transponder coils can be combined with the company’s B82450A A and B82450A E transponder coil series for the x- and y-axes. Footprints are 11.4 x 3.5 and 8.0 x 2.7mm, respectively. Using three discrete transponder coils offers design flexibility and can save space on the PCB, says the company. A design combining the new Z transponder coil with two 8mm X and Y transponder coils, for example, needs an area of just 100mm². All transponder coils are RoHS-compatible.
