Cool running relay supports power conditioners for renewable micro-power installations

Introduced for applications which demand high energy efficiency as well as low heat generation, the Omron G9KA is a compact, efficient 800V AC / 200A high power relay. It is designed for power conditioners associated with renewable micro power generation as well as inverters and UPS applications.

The Omron G9KA relay can be used for grid interconnection and safety interruption. It has low contact resistance of just 0.2mOhm. This reduces the heat generated in the relay by over 30 per cent compared with current equivalent devices, says Omron. This reduces the need for thermal management components such as heat sinks or fans and improves reliability by reducing heating of the surrounding components.

According to Steve Drumm, business development manager for energy applications at Omron, said, “Increasing use of micro-generation from solar and other renewable sources is leading to a growth in distributed power conditioners. Suppressing heat generation has become a major issue for customers in these applications. Our design team have innovated in terms of the structure of the devices, the materials used and the manufacturing quality to achieve an exceptionally low contact resistance, facilitating the customer’s thermal design and reducing design cost.”

The resulting G9KA has dimensions of 50 x 50 x 50mm, and a 30 per cent smaller footprint and lower height than available alternative products, says Omron. The relay is UL recognised, and EN/IEC TUV, UL and CQC-certificated. It is supplied with PCB terminals and is rated for use at ambient temperatures of up to 85 degrees C.

Omron Electronic Components Europe produces electromechanical PCB relays, as well components such as micro switches, MOSFET relays, DIP switches, photo micro sensors and connectors.
