DC link capacitor is designed for IGBT modules
Designed specifically for an IGBT module, the Epcos DC link capacitor has six busbar terminals with dimensions that are matched precisely to fit the HybridPack 1-DC6 IGBT module from Infineon Technologies. Multiple contacting produces current capability while offering very low parasitics. For example, the ESR has a maximum value of 0.6mOhm and the ESL value is just 25nH. According to the company, the low ESL, almost completely eliminates voltage peaks on switching off the IGBTs.
The B25655P4607J021 capacitor is designed for a rated voltage of 450V DC and offers a capacitance of 600microF. Its current capability is about 150A at a maximum ambient temperature of 105 degree C and a cooled temperature on the underside of 75 degree C. The component is designed using power capacitor chip (PCC) technology in which the capacitor element is constructed as a stacked winding. A volume fill factor of nearly one is achieved. The dimensions of the housing are compact, at just 140 x 72 x 50mm.
A flat winding version (B25655P4477J121) is offered in the same housing. This type has a capacitance of 470 microF and is designed for 450V DC. At a maximum ambient temperature of 105 degree C and a cooled temperature on the underside of 75 degree C, its current capability is about 150A. The ESR value of this design is 0.8mOhm and the ESL value is 25nH.
The capacitor is also available with an additional connection for the Epcos high-voltage DC EMC filter. According to the company, the combination of the IGBT module with the link circuit capacitor enables the design of compact inverters for xEV applications or for use as industrial inverters.
