DC/DC converters from Micropower Direct meet PV applications
Micropower Direct offers the MPV4080S series of 40W 200 to 1,500V DC input DC/DC converters. The MPV4080S series is designed specifically to meet the needs of utility scale photovoltaic (PV) applications. They feature a wide 200 to 1500V DC input, which allows the use of longer solar panel strings, which in turn reduces the number of combiner boxes required.
Three models are offered by Micropower Direct. They provide outputs of 12, 15 and 24V DC. Performance features include 4,000V AC isolation, tight line and load regulation, and high efficiency. All models are protected for over-voltage, over- current and short circuit faults. They also feature under-voltage protection, which can insure system stability in the event the PV system suffers frequent restarts (caused by varying sunlight intensity), says Micropower Direct.
The mean time between failure (MTBF) per MIL HDBK 217F of the MPV4080S is greater than 300k hours.
All models of the MPV4080S family are packaged in a 4.9 x 2.9 x 1.57-inch (124 x 74 x 40mm), encapsulated case. Each model is specified for operation over the wide operating temperature range of 40 to +70 degree C ambient. Cooling is by free-air convection.
According to Micropower Direct, the MPV4080S series provides the high performance features, compact size, rugged packaging, high reliability and economy required for commercial/industrial grade photovoltaic applications.
All MicroPower Direct products are designed to provide long, reliable field life. The company performs extensive reliability screening on all modules as a routine part of
Its production process.
