Design service cuts displays down to size

Letterbox size TFT display modules can be cut to a specified height, as andersDX extends its semi-custom display service to seven and 10.1inch colour TFT displays.

The service also includes adding touch control and other features, but the initial non-recurring engineering (NRE) cost is less than 10% of the normal upfront charge, says the company.

Since its launch the semi-custom service has enabled customers to transform a system with a colour display instead of a mono character unit in applications where a standard TFT will not fit, for example, in rack mounted equipment.

Customisation is carried out at an ISO9001-accredited site, with the appropriate cleanroom facilities. The process, including resizing and the addition of a backlight and touch interface, is carried out at a single site. The NRE costs are a fraction of those associated with a full custom display, says the company, and the minimum economic order is low.

The service is now offered on 2.8, 4.3 and 7.0inch colour TFT displays; the company is developing a 10.1inch display. Displays can be cut to a specified height, and features such as touch control and a backlight can be added to specification.
