Evaluation kit can prototype SiC power converter
Distributor Richardson RFPD has introduced the 900V SiC evaluation kit from Wolfspeed. It may be used as an evaluation tool or as a means to quickly prototype a SiC power converter, says the company.
The CRD-5FF0912P includes two of Wolfspeed’s 900V third-generation SiC MOSFETs (the 3M0120090J) in surface mount 7L-D2PAK packages. Users can evaluate MOSFET switching waveforms, gate drive circuit performance and protection implementation on a PCB. It was designed to demonstrate the switching performance of the company’s new low-impedance package with driver source (7L-D2PAK) that was specifically designed for SiC MOSFET technology. According to the company, the board provides an example of an optimal layout for properly driving the new surface mount SiC MOSFETs with minimal ringing.
The board also includes flexible half-bridge configuration to quickly prototype a synchronous buck, boost or inverter and a jumper option for unipolar (+15V/0V) or bipolar (+15V/-3V) gate drive.
Test points evaluate Vgs and Vds waveforms, with an option to add a CVR for Ids waveforms. The thermal design features an isolated and integrated heatsink with built-in forced air cooling fan
