Excelsys CoolX600 power supplies now feature PMBus communication

As well as full industrial and medical approvals, and a five-year warranty, the CoolX600 series of 600W convection-cooled modular supplies is now available from Excelsys Technologies with a PMBus communication option.

The Excelsys CoolX600 offers analogue and digital management with PMBus monitoring and control capability and is user field-configurable with plug-and-play power. All outputs are isolated and may be connected in series or parallel to achieve higher output voltages or currents. Mounting options include base, side and DIN Rail alternatives

PMBus provides a set of commands and data structures required by power control and management components. It allows system builders a standard way to communicate with power converters over a digital communications bus. The CoolX series PMBus interface facilitates the communication of operating parameters such as output voltage, output current and internal temperature with other PMBus-enabled devices. It also provides the remote adjustment of parameters such as output voltage level, current limit and control features such as power supply and individual output enable/inhibit.

The convection-cooled CoolX600 series is the user-configurable modular power supply from Excelsys Technologies which delivers 600W without fan assisted cooling from its compact form, which measures 8.5 x 4.5inch x 1U (215.9 x 114.3 x 39.1mm). This is, says Excelsys, the only fanless modular power supply on the market. It is claimed to offer best-in-class performance for efficiency and reliability and to the most comprehensive feature set and specifications available. Typical efficiency is greater than 93 per cent and, due to its thermal performance, offers typically 25 per cent longer lifetime than competitors.

Enhanced thermal performance may be obtained with system fans or additional external conduction cooling resulting in even higher system reliability, Other features for the CoolX600 include 4kV input surge immunity, and the ability to withstand input voltages of up to 300V AC. This makes it suitable for use in remote locations and those subject to input voltage disturbances. Additional features include SEMI F47 compliance, and operation at 5000m altitude. A 25W standby power output, offering effectively another output, for system intelligence, cooling fans or displays is a standard feature.

The CoolX600 is available with full safety certifications to UL/EN60950 and UL/EN60601 3rd and 4th Edition (EMC) for both industrial and medical applications. Stand-out medical features include BF rating (Body Floating), dual fusing, 2 x MOPP (Means of Patient Protection), at less than 300microA leakage current.

The CoolX600 can be populated with up to four CoolMods, providing up to four isolated DC outputs ranging from 3.0 to 58.0V. Outputs can be configured to the required set point voltages and connected in parallel of series for higher output current and/or higher output voltages.

Typical applications are medical clinical diagnostic equipment, medical lasers, dialysis equipment, radiological imaging and clinical chemistry. Industrial test and measurement, industrial machines, automation equipment, printing, telecommunications, audio equipment and high reliability harsh industrial electronics, radar, (naval, ground based), communications, test and measurement
