Haptic feedback actuators save height and power
Featuring a short response time of just 4ms, the PHUA8060-35A-33-000 PiezoHapt actuator has a unimorph design; a multi-layer piezo element bonded to one side of a vibration plate. This results in a thickness of just 0.35mm which is thinner than conventional eccentric rotary motors and linear resonant actuators, says TDK, making it one of the world’s thinnest haptic devices.
The actuator can be driven with voltages of less than 24V and can produce a variety of vibration patterns, depending on the amplitude and frequency of the voltage applied. The PHUA8060-35A-33-000 has a footprint of 80 x 60mm (vibration plate). Frequency is 200Hz (sine-wave) with 24V peak, to offer a typical displacement of 55microm. The actuator can provide haptic feedback to user actions in the displays of smartphones and tablets, car navigation systems, touch pads and controllers..
The PiezoHapt actuator joins the other actuators with haptic feedback from the company, including the PowerHap series, claimed to have higher displacement and the highest acceleration and force, in a single component with integrated sensor functionality. They can be used in vehicles, household appliances, game controllers and industrial equipment.
Shipments of samples will begin in March 2017.
