High-voltage microcontroller has USB PD 3.1 support

Believed to be the first high voltage microcontroller with USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.1 support, the EZ-PD Power Delivery Microcontroller Gen1 (PDMG1) from Infineon targets embedded systems that provide or consume power up to 28V (140W).

It supports higher power capabilities defined in the USB PD 3.1 specification and provides additional control via the microcontroller. It is intended for use in consumer, industrial and communications markets for applications such as smart speakers, routers, power and garden tools.

The PMG1 family integrates a proven USB PD stack, with an Arm Cortex-M0/M0+ processor with up to 256kbyte flash memory and 32kbyte SRAM, programmable general purpose IO (GPIO) pins, gate drivers, low drop out (LDO) regulators and high voltage protection circuits. The PMG1 microcontroller also provides hardware and firmware protection, including over-voltage and over-current protection, short circuit and reverse current protection, secure firmware boot and signed firmware update.

There are programmable analogue and digital blocks which can be used to customise and integrate intelligent analogue sensors into the application. The PMG1 microcontroller is also field programmable to allow signed firmware updates for improved efficiency. Programming is supported by the ModusToolbox integrated development environment (IDE) with the PMG1 software development kit, prototyping kits and quick start guide for firmware development and testing.

The USB PD microcontroller family PMG 1 can be ordered now.
