HiperPFS-4 PFC ICs meet computer and entertainment requirements
Power Integrations offers the HiperPFS-4 family of power factor correction (PFC) ICs. They enable 98 per cent efficient PFC designs up to 550W, while offering high PF at light load, low standby power consumption and support for a 305V AC input.
The HiperPFS-4 family serves applications targeting efficiency and power factor performance at both full load and light load conditions, says Power Integrations. The HiperPFS-4 devices incorporate a 600V MOSFET suitable for 305V AC input and a high efficiency, variable frequency, continuous conduction mode (CCM) PFC controller in a single, compact, electrically isolated package. The ICs deliver high power factor, low total harmonic distortion (THD) and uniformly high efficiency across a wide output load range. This means, says the company, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can meet the demanding 80 PLUS Platinum and Titanium power supply standards.
HiperPFS-4 ICs achieve a high power factor of above 0.95 and low THD even at 20 per cent of rated load. They also meet the stringent surge requirements of major computer and entertainment equipment providers, such as the one second 410V AC input test, for field reliability and robustness against voltage swells and surges.
The HiperPFS-4 ICs suit enclosed designs up to 300W, open frame power supplies of up to 400W and highline applications up to 550W. Protection features include under voltage lock out, under-voltage, over-voltage, over-temperature protection, brown in/out, cycle-by-cycle current limit and power limit. HiperPFS-4 ICs consume less than 60mW at 230V AC while regulating output at no-load and less than 20mW in sleep mode.
The benefits afforded by the frequency-sliding control technology enable HiperPFS-4 designs to deliver high efficiency down to very light load, which is important when targeting European Union Code of Conduct (EU CoC) requirements that include a 10 per cent load efficiency measurement. The 600V integrated power MOSFET and protection features make the HiperPFS-4 family suitable for use in regions where input voltage fluctuations can be severe. HiperPFS-4 devices provide safe PFC operation with a good margin at 305V AC input for data centres and commercial LED lighting, e-bike battery chargers, refrigerators and cordless tool chargers.
