Hirose Electric’s CX series includes top and mid-mount waterproof connectors
Type-C connectors in the CX series by Hirose Electric now include the CX90BW-16P top-mount receptacle, which is a connector soldered to the top side of the PCB and the CX90MW6-16P mid-mount model that fits into a hole cut in the board.
The CX90BW-16P receptacle is waterproof to IPX4, meaning it can be used safely even in environments with exposure to water splashing.
The CX90MW6-16P saves mounting space and contributes to the height reduction of equipment. The design of the internal parts enable high PCB retention force, added Hirose Electric. Retention force can be further enhanced by screwing the connector to the board after mounting using the screw holes in the shell. The high IPX8 waterproof performance provides resistance to environmental elements.
The USB Type-C connector is designed with a rotationally symmetrical design that can be inserted regardless of contact direction. It has become increasingly popular in a variety of applications such as smartphones and tablets.
Both the CX90BW-16P and the CX90MW6-16P have a high heat resistance of 105 degrees C and a high current capacity of 6A for quick charging.
They include a USB Type-C compliant interface connector and a reversible plug orientation for easy insertion. Transmission rates are USB2.0/ 480Mbits per second.
Target applications are smartphones, tablets and wireless earbuds.
