Inertial measurement units control machinery in demanding environments
Two inertial measurement units (IMUs), the M-G364 and M-G354, are designed specifically for demanding environments such as unmanned vehicle guidance, agriculture and construction, all of which can generate high levels of vibration and shock that hinder MEMS IMU performance.
They have three axes of gyroscopes and accelerometers and provide built-in support for industrial interfaces, the SPI and UART protocols. They measure 24 x 24 x 10mm and offer 2.2 (M-G364) and 3.0 (M-G354) degree per hour gyro bias stability.
Re-designed metal housing and internal architecture are claimed to enhance vibration and shock protection by isolating the inertial sensors while a connector can be used for top or bottom-mounting.
Enhanced components inside the IMUs are also claimed to yield increased long-term reliability, an expanded operating temperature range, improved sensor stability and resolution, and a 40 per cent reduction in power consumption. New software includes delta angle or delta velocity output and an expanded selection of output data rates.
