Infineon offers 16A and 23A versions of integrated PoL regulator
Two versions of the OptiMOS IR3826(A)M integrated point of load (PoL) DC/DC voltage regulator have been announced by Infineon. The IR3826AM (16A) and IR3826M (23A) are designed for network comms router and switches, datacomms, telecomms basestations, server and enterprise storage.
The voltage regulator can operate from an input voltage of 12V (5.0 to 17V) and provide up to 16 or 23A continuous current. It enables high switching frequency operations with enhanced efficiency, says Infineon, and reduced power losses compared to previous generations of the company’s offering. The device supports high switching frequency of up to 1.5MHz for small PCB size and less capacitors.
Both current ratings are offered in a PQFN package with 5.0 x 6.0mm footprint for scalability. Parts are pin-compatible to Infineon’s earlier products for risk-free efficiency upgrade with minimum design effort, assures Infineon.
The IR3826(A)M addresses the heat challenge without or with minimum airflow in thermally constrained application designs such us 3.3 or 5.0V supply voltages. It also supports applications that operate with high ambient temperature, e.g. 85 degrees C for telecomms.
The PWM Gen 3 engine of the IR3826AM and IR3826M regulators allow operation with fixed frequency to reduce noise in multi-rail telecomms or network comms like basestations.
The devices are RoHS2-compliant without an exemption to accommodate future regulations.
The regulators are in high volume production now, with evaluation boards also available.
