Infineon offers StrongIRFET MOSFET in new package for battery power

Infineon Technologies has added a 40V MOSFET, packaged in a D²PAK 7pin+ package, to its StrongIRFET family.

The 40V MOSFET offers a low RDS(on) of 0.65-mOhm and is claimed to have the highest current carrying capability in the industry. As a result, says Infineon, the MOSFET is both robust and reliable for high power density applications which require high efficiency and reliability. The surface mount D²PAK 7pin+ package targets low voltage drives, battery powered tools and small electric vehicles (EVs).

The D²PAK 7pin+ package enhances the options for selecting a power device from the StrongIRFET family for many design challenges. Additionally, the interchangeable pinout options of the new package allow for design flexibility, adds Infineon. In comparison to the standard D²PAK 7pin package, the new family offers up to 15 per cent lower RDS(on) and up to 39 per cent lower thermal resistance from junction to printed circuit board (PCB).

The package is optimised to hold a die with an increased area of up to 20 per cent while sharing the same footprint and pinout as a standard D²PAK 7pin. It can therefore replace the traditional D²PAK 7pin and H²PAK packages, points our Infineon. Additionally, the package is designed with a threshold voltage at logic level which allows for driving the MOSFET directly from the microcontroller. This saves PCB space, which is – especially for battery powered tools – very often a limiting design factor.

The StrongIRFET in the D²PAK 7pin+ package is available now.
