Intel adds Iris Xe graphics to 11th Gen Core processors
At Computex 2021, Intel has announced two new processors to the 11th Gen Intel Core processors.
The 11th Gen Intel Core processor family targets ‘thin-and-light’ laptop computers, with an emphasis on productivity, creation, gaming and entertainment. The new additions, the Intel Core i7-1195G7 has a 12Mbyte cache, DDR4-32000 and LPDDR4x-4266 memory and operates with a base frequency of 2.9Ghz and single core turbo frequency of 5GHz (maximimum). The second addition to the 11th Gen family is the Intel Core i5-1155G7. This also has Intel Iris Xe Graphics, an 8Mbyte cache and DDR4-3200 and LPDDR4x-4266 memory. Base frequency is 2.5GHz and maximum single core Turbo frequency is 4.5GHz. Both the i7-1195G7 and the i5-1155G7 have an operating range of 12 to 28W.
The Intel Iris Xe graphics offer discrete-level graphics performance in sleeker, thinner, and lighter laptops. 11th Gen Intel Core processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics enable more top games at great, playable frame rates in full-HD than competing processors, says Intel. Intel Iris Xe graphics also deliver brilliant visuals with support for billions of colours, HDR10, Dolby Atmos sound, and long playback of Dolby Vision-enabled content with hardware acceleration. This allows gaming in up to 1080p at 30 frames per second or more and an immersive entertainment experience, the graphics allows users to complete creative projects with blazing speed powered by hardware accelerated artificial intelligence (AI) in a thin and light laptop.
Intel claims that these are the industry’s first processors operating at up to 5GHz in high volume, thin and light laptop designs. For designs with Intel Wi-Fi 6/6E (Giga+), they offer improved connectivity, says Intel, and offer independent software vendor (ISV) optimisations for up to eight times faster transcoding and up to twice the video editing speed compared with competing processors.
In addition to 1080p operation for gaming, there is up to 2.7 higher frame rate than competing processors, claims Intel. Already Acer, Asus, Lenovo and MSI have announced over 60 laptop designs based on the Intel Core i7-1195G7 and Intel Core i5-1155G7.
