Low dropout voltage regulators have lowest Iq, claims Diodes

Low drop-out (LDO) voltage regulators introduced by Diodes, the AP7387 series devices have a quiescent current (Iq) of just 2.0 microA, which is “significantly below competing devices” said the company.

The AP7387 regulators can be used in a range of domestic applications such as cordless vacuum cleaners, smoke detectors, power tools, and other household appliances.

The regulators have an input voltage range spanning from 5.0 to 60V, which gives them the flexibility to be connected to 5.0, 9.0, 12, 24 and 48V rails. The low Iq enables the LDOs to present a minimal draw on the battery resources, thereby extending the operational runtime of equipment into which they are integrated.

Despite the low current, the AP7387 series has a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 70dB at 1kHz. Together with a fast line/load transient response, this helps mitigate sudden input voltage and load current changes. Both attributes make them well-suited to noise sensitive implementations, said Diodes.

The AP7387 devices are rated at 150mA output current and are available in 3.0, 3.3, 3.6 and 5.0V fixed output voltage versions with ± two per cent output tolerance. Current limit, short-circuit and thermal shutdown protection mechanisms are incorporated to improve device and system robustness. In addition, the LDO regulators meet 4kV human body model (HBM) electrostatic discharge (ESD) requirements.

The AP7387 series is supplied in SOT23, SOT25, SOT89, and U-DFN2020-6 packages.
