Medical cables are bio-compatible and UL approved

Cable specialist SAB Bröckskes offers a range of cable materials for medical devices. The bio-compatible SABmed S series is claimed to be a flexible, smooth cable, with high abrasion and tear strength. It has UK approval as well as a non blooming type.

All types are bio-compatible according to EN ISO 10993-5 and offer best characteristics with regard to notch resistance, claims the company. Nearly every cable type in or at medical devices can be manufactured with this material compound. Single cores, interfaces for bus systems (as for example CAT5 up to CAT7, RS232, USB), power cables or cables for hand-held equipment are also available.

The material compound SAB can be used for connection cables for temperature sensors. Manufacturers can also adapt the cable colour individually to the colour of the medical device.

There are four materials available: SABmed S Classic – the basic material with high notch and tear propagation strength and high flexibility; SABmed S Ultraflexible – offering higher mobility; SABmed S UL – produced using a compound of the Sabix R med material range with UL approval, for UL approved cables for medical devices in the low volt range; and the SABmed S Platin – a ‘non-blooming’ version, whereby decomposition products do not appear on the cable sheath.
