Medical power supplies do not need earth ground connection
Single output, medically certified encapsulated power supplies from TDK-Lambda have a Class II input. This means they do not require an earth ground connection, making them suitable for use in a range of medical, dental and home healthcare, as well as for broadcast, test and measurement and industrial equipment, says the company.
The KMS-A series has three power levels, 15, 30 and 60W, and 5.0, 9.0, 12, 15 and 24V outputs. Off-load power draw is less than 0.1W for the KMS15A and KMS30A and less than 0.3W for the KMS60A with product efficiencies up to 89%. All models can operate from a wide range input voltage of 90 to 264V AC.
The power supplies are suitable for board-mounting and are enclosed in UL 94V-0 rated resin cases. The 15W model measures 52.5 x 27.5 x 23.5mm, the 30W 64.0 x 45.0 x 23.5mm, and the 60W 89.0 x 63.5 x 27.0mm. The products can operate convection cooled in ambient temperatures of -40 to +85°C, with appropriate derating above 50°C, and have a maximum operating altitude of 5,000m.
The series has been certified to UL/CSA/IEC/EN 60950-1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, IEC/EN 60601-1 and carries the CE mark for the Low Voltage and RoHS2 Directives. The company’s medical safety compliance extends to providing 4kV AC, two MOPPs (Means of Patient Protection) input to output isolation and a touch current of less than 100microA at 264V AC. All models comply with EN 55011-B (conducted and radiated) emissions and EN 61000-4-2 immunity standards.
