Metal D-Sub hood connector offers flexible cabling options

A 15-pin, full metal D-Sub hood connector from Provertha, has two parallel cable outputs for increased cable flexible options at bus interfaces.

The two axial 180 degree cable outlets in the 10115DC series are combined with a torsion and vibration-proof shield contact and strain relief based on a crimp flange / crimp sleeve system. The strain relief and shield connection via external cable clamps is suitable for cable diameters of 4.0 to 14mm. The 10115DC series in zinc die-cast design meets requirements for interference-free data transmission in demanding applications and additionally in railway and traffic technology.

The hood series can also be used with D-Sub or bus interfaces that are close together. The small installation width (14.8mm) can be used for space-saving, narrow three module units (one module corresponds to 5.08mm).

Networks in railway technology are exposed to extreme influences, such as interference radiation, vibrations or mechanical loads, while data and signal transmissions depend on secure connections. Provertha said that in addition to cable assembly, the full-metal hood connector series simplifies assembly at difficult-to-access installation points because the number of parts is minimised, explained the company. The design is compact and practical, with, for example, cover and cable clamping screws, and knurled screws being pre-assembled and captive.

The housing of the 10115DC series has excellent shielding and a vibration-proof screw-type locking system with Allen screws (UNC 4-40, M3) and pre-mounted spring lock washer, claims Provertha. In addition to cable clamps, there is a vibration-proof crimp flange / crimp sleeve system (hexagonal crimp) for cable connections with torsion and vibration-proof shield contact and strain relief. The hoods have a large installation space and external cable connection for a PCB to be integrated. The full-metal hoods can be repeatedly opened without impairing characteristics such as HF density.

For application-oriented and functionally reliable solutions, Provertha offers a range with over 20 hood systems made of plastic, metallised plastic and solid metal. For applications with high EMC requirements, Provertha has developed full-metal hoods with a special housing for 360 degree shielding.
