Modular power supply series can be configured for MoPPs isolation
Modular power supplies, rated from 1,200 to 1,500W, make up the QM series of AC/DC power supplies from TDK Lambda. They are, says the company, the first modular series in this rating range to have full MoPPs isolation. They are also claimed to have the lowest acoustic noise available on the market at that power level.
Certified for both medical and industrial safety, the series can be used for a range of applications, including BF-rated medical equipment, test and measurement, broadcast, communications and renewable energy applications.
Input is 90 to 264V AC, 47 to 440Hz, enabling the supplies to deliver 1,200, and 1,500W with a 150 to 264V AC input. Up to 16 outputs can be provided, with voltages ranging from 2.8 to 52.8V. The company plans to add higher voltages in due course. Power ratings start from 35W, with single or dual outputs, to 1,200W single output. Operating temperatures are -20 to +70 degree C, derating output power and output current by 2.5 per cent per degree C above 50 degree C.
An optional standby/signal module is available with a choice of one or two standby voltages (5.0 and 12V at up to 2A). It also contains unit inhibit or unit enable, plus an AC good signal. All the output modules are fitted with module good, module inhibit signals and remote sense as standard (with the exception of the dual output DH module, which is the only one not to have remote sense as standard).
Operating efficiency is up to 91 per cent, allowing the use of low speed cooling fans which reduces audible noise to just 44.3dBA at room temperature and 45.3dBA at 50 degree C, measured in accordance with BS EN ISO 3744:2010. As less ingress of dirt and contaminants is drawn into the power supply than those with traditional high-speed fans, greater reliability can be realised, points out the company.
The units are certified to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1, IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950-1 and designed to meet IEC/EN61010-1 with CE marking for the Low Voltage and RoHS2 Directives. Input to output isolation is 4,000V AC (two MoPPs), 1,500V AC input to ground (one MoPP) and 1,500V AC (one MoPP) output to ground. Maximum earth leakage current is 300microA, while still complying with the EN61000-6-3:2007 and EN60601-1-2:2015 (curve B conducted and radiated) emission standards. The units also meet the EN60601-1-2 and EN61000-6-2 immunity standards and are designed and manufactured under the control of ISO9001 and ISO13485 (including risk management).
Overall case dimensions are a compact 176 x 63.3 x 270mm and weight is between 2.6 and 3.1kg, depending on the configuration. The series carries a seven-year warranty.
