Mouser stocks single-chip monolithic power modules
Distributor Mouser Electronics now stocks Monolithic Power Modules (MPM) from Monolithic Power Systems (MPS).
The modules eliminate assembly steps and minimise external components, says the company and integrate a monolithic regulator, passive components, and a mould compound in a single chip. The step-down DC/DC converters are based on the company’s single-step assembly process and are claimed to offer circuit simplicity for ease of design, yield superior noise, ripple, and transient performance; and are available in a compact module form factor that is up to 50 per cent smaller than competing solutions.
The high-frequency, synchronous, rectified, step-down, switch-mode converters with built-in power MOSFETs and integrated inductors can regulate a continuous output current to input voltage with what are described as excellent load and line regulation results. The modules operate on a switching frequency of up to 2.4MHz to achieve a fast load transient response. Operating input range is up to 36V. The modules also include a variety of protective features including over-current protection and thermal shut down.
The modules are designed with a small surface-mount footprint that is easy to use and rework due to a standard QFN packaging which eliminates some of the disadvantages typically associated with BGA or NDY packages.
All modules are lead-free, halogen free and RoHS-compliant, and suited to space-constraint, DC/DC applications, including those in industrial products and controls, IoT devices, low-voltage I/O power solutions, optical modules, and medical devices.
