NTC thermistors are for alternative energy applications

Inrush current limiting NTC thermistors in the MS35 series withstand high input energy from 500 to 900J and steady-state currents from 10 to 50A. Ametherm says they have a rugged design and are optimised for high-power applications, including solar inverters, battery chargers, and DC/DC converters.

There are seven thermistors in the series, featuring resistance from 0.5 to 20Ohm, dissipation constants from 78 to 102.45 mw/ degree C, and thermal time constants from 65 to 240 sec. The devices can handle body temperatures up to 235 degree C at 100 per cent of their maximum current rating, and they offer maximum capacitance from 1,000 to 1,800microF at 680V AC.

The thermistors have diameters are 37 and 38mm and thickness down to 6.5mm. They handle the same amount of energy as power resistors in a smaller package, says the company, saving board space, and for a one-component alternatives to using power resistors with timers and relays.
