Outdoor fibre optic connector is small and light for wireless infrastructure

Huber+Suhner says that the Q-ODC-2 Mini is its smallest outdoor fibre optic connector for harsh environments. The connector enables cost-effective, flexible and higher capacity deployments of new wireless infrastructure in industrial and communication applications, says the company.

The compact design has dimensions that are 50 per cent smaller and the weight is 40 per cent less than Huber+Suhner’s Q-ODC-2 outdoor connector. These smaller proportions allow wireless infrastructure providers to access new locations and add more capacity to the network, reducing the cost per bit, explains the company.

The Q-ODC-2 Mini overcomes the challenge of high system sensitivity and increases reliability for applications in diverse industries, such as wind energy, railway and shipbuilding.

The connector is waterproof, dust-proof and corrosion resistant and is safe for outdoor installations. It features a robust push-pull coupling mechanism and an extension connector for cable chaining, for fast installation with ease, says the company.

“The Q-ODC-2 Mini addresses critical challenges in the planning, building and operation of new wireless infrastructure deployments by providing an affordable solution that is simple to install and takes up the minimum amount of physical space,” said Carsten Dieckmann, product manager at Huber+Suhner. “[It] adds to our portfolio of fibre optic solutions that are suitable for complex applications with high data rates as network providers look to meet the demand for more capacity at a lower cost per bit.”

Huber+Suhner is headquartered in Switzerland. It develops components and systems for electrical and optical connectivity. Its cables, connectors and systems are based on core technologies of radio frequency, fiber optics and low frequency and serve customers in the communication, transportation and industrial sectors.

The company has a global production network, combined with group companies and agencies in over 80 countries.
