Pickering Electronics excels in miniaturisation with Series 131 reed relay

The reed relay company, Pickering Electronics, says it has pioneered miniaturisation for over 50 years, and has launched what it claims is the industry’s smallest high voltage relay. The Series 131 reed relays are housed in the miniature single in line (SIL/SIP) package. It has a footprint of just 12.5 x 3.7mm and a height of 6.6mm. It delivers a minimum stand-off of 1,500V.

Pickering offers a choice of 3.0, 5.0 or 12V coils, with optional internal diode. The Series 131 reed relays are available in the 1 Form A (energize to make) SPST NO configuration and can switch up to 0.7A, 10W. Intended uses are cable testers, mixed signal/semiconductor testers, backplane testers, high voltage instrumentation, in-circuit test equipment or other high voltage applications.

The Series 131 miniature SIL reed relays use vacuumed, sputtered ruthenium reed switches for low level performance and a wide range of signals. The range is based on Pickering’s plastic package that incorporates an internal mu-metal magnetic screen to enable high packing density and its SoftCenter construction which protects the reed switch.

Pickering Electronics was formed over 50 years ago to design and manufacture high quality reed relays, intended principally for use in instrumentation and test equipment. Today, Pickering’s SIL/SIP range offers devices 25 per cent the size of many competitors. These small SIL/SIP reed relays are sold to large ATE and semiconductor companies around the world.
