Power management for servers is based on Intel Sapphire Rapids

Power management for computer servers that has been developed by Infineon Technologies is based on Intel’s Sapphire Rapids CPUs.

The company explained it has combined software-defined digital controllers with integrated power stage and PoL converters to deliver outstanding energy efficiency and overall system performance. The power management suite includes Infineon’s XDP digital multiphase controllers, OptiMOS integrated power stages and OptiMOS IPOL voltage regulators.

The hyper transient phase XDPE152 series controllers, the XDPE15284D,  XDPE15254D and  XDPE152C4D, are based on the low power Arm Cortex-M0 for optimised performance across workloads with fast dynamic load response time. The proprietary control algorithms offer high speed response by effectively managing pulsating processor peak currents with minimal output capacitance. The software-defined architecture allows system designers to optimise system performance across different system architectures and processor workloads.

The TDA215xx series of OptiMOS integrated power stages is based on OptiMOS 6 technology, offering at least 95 per cent efficiency, leading to reduced system cooling and maintenance costs.

The OptiMOS IPOL TDA38640 converter is claimed to feature the best transient response enabled by Infineon’s proprietary Fast Constant ON Time (COT) control engine and enhanced digital telemetry when operating with Intel’s serial voltage identification (SVID) and PMBus.

Rakesh Renganathan, director of marketing, Power & Sensor Systems division of Infineon, explained that the collection provides “customers with flexibility in system design to maximise performance across various workloads and system architectures”.

The XDP hyper transient phase controller, OptiMOS integrated power stage solution and IPOL switching converter are available now.
