Push-pull circular connectors save time and accelerate approvals, says ODU

ODU has expanded its ODU Mini-Snap push-pull circular connector, with additional inserts designed to fulfil the user and patient protection levels required by IEC 60601-1 (i.e. 2 x MOOP / 2 x MOPP). The connectors have a robust metal housing, a number of configuration options and up to 500 autoclavable cycles.

The portfolio now includes additional inserts that have been specially designed to fulfil the user and patient protection levels required by IEC 60601-1. These connectors now become the solution of choice when searching for a circular connector with a metal housing for medical applications.

The approval procedures for medical electrical equipment and systems have become complex. ODU says that if it is involved in the design-in process from the start then, not only is the risk management process simplified, but also the cost of product development for such manufacturers can be reduced to a minimum. The necessary time for approval procedures can be substantially shortened if components from suppliers are already fully compliant with the IEC 60601-1.

Choosing a connector with a metal housing fulfils the requirements defined under IEC 60601-1 with regards to advanced electromagnetic shielding capabilities and the mechanical strength of the connector. These features ensure safe operation and the best possible signal quality in the most demanding of medical environments, says ODU.

Inserts are available in three sizes and offer a choice of contacts.

Size 1 has seven crimp contacts and a nominal voltage of 36V AC or DC. Size 2 has 12 crimp contacts, with a nominal voltage of 48V AC or DC. Size 3 has 16 crimp contacts, with a nominal voltage of 48V AC or DC. All three versions have a diameter of 0.7mm. Further contact variants are available on request. The inserts are suitable for deployment in the ODU Mini-Snap L- and K-series of connectors. Reverse gendering options are also available. The voltage ratings are valid for pollution grade 2 (IEC 60601-1), adds ODU. The nominal current rating is specified as 7.0A.

Customer specific cable assemblies with or without silicone overmoulding are also available upon request.
