PYD20 DC/DC converters are rugged for rail applications

Rugged 20W DC/DC converters by TDK-Lambda have an 18:1 wide input of 8.5 to 160V DC, making them suitable for industrial and rail applications.

The board mount DC/DC converters measure 2.0 x 1.0 inches and 0.4 inches high (50.8 x 25.4mm and 10.2mm high) and have a plastic case, silicone potted to provide a high level of resistance to shock and vibration. They are suitable for  applications requiring EN 50155, the standard for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. Other applications include industrial and measurement equipment requiring battery back up or a DC source.

The PYD20 series has three nominal single outputs, 5.0, 12 and 15V, adjustable over a -20 to +10 per cent range for non-standard voltages. Three dual fixed output models, ±12, ±15 and ±24V, are also available and can be configured to operate as a single 24, 30 and 48V outputs.

All models have over-current, output over-voltage and over-temperature protection. Remote on/off is standard. The power modules have efficiencies of up to 90 per cent and can operate with a case temperature of between -40 to +105 degrees C with derating at high temperatures.

The input to output isolation is 3,000V AC and the PYD20 series has been certified to the IEC / UL / CSA / EN 62368-1 safety standards with the CE and UKCA marks for the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives.

TDK was established in 1935 to commercialise ferrite, a key material in electronic and magnetic products. Its portfolio features passive components such as ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The product spectrum also includes sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors. In addition, TDK provides power supplies and energy devices and magnetic heads. Products are marketed under the brand names TDK, Epcos, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda.

TDK focuses the automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, and information and communication technology markets. The company has a network of design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Asia, Europe, and in North and South America.

TDK-Lambda supplies power conversion products for industrial and medical equipment worldwide.
TDK-Lambda has R&D, manufacturing, sales and service locations in five key geographic regions, namely Japan, EMEA, Americas, China and ASEAN.
