Recom introduces R-78Bxx-2.0 switching regulator in compact package

Able to reach efficiencies up to 96 per cent, the R-78Bxx-2.0 switching regulators expand the R-78B series available from Recom.

The 2A on-board power supply can reach efficiencies up to 96 per cent, without heat sinks. The R-78Bxx-2.0 series provides a high power density of up to 17.5W per cm³ n a SIP3 housing which measures 11.5 x 8.5 x 17.5mm.

The R-78Bxx-2.0 series switching regulators can be used to replace 78xx linear regulators and are also pin-compatible with linear regulators in TO-220 packages. The R-78Bxx-2.0 offers a spectrum of output voltages from 1.2 to 15V DC and input voltages of up to 32V DC.

Recom notes that at 96 per cent efficiency, very little energy is lost through heat. Up to 30W of power is provided over a temperature range from -40 to +70 degree C without the need for heatsinks. This reduces both mounting costs and saves space. Tight output regulation protects against any sudden change in input voltage and keeps interference levels low and output voltage stable.

The L-Version with 90 degree pins allows direct replacement for horizontally-mounted regulators where component height is critical. A short-circuit protection, low ripple and noise figures, and a 50mA input current under short-circuit conditions are also in the specifications of the R-78Bxx-2.0 converter series. All Recom R-78Bxx-2.0 modules are certified to IEC/EN62368-1 and EN55022 with a CB report. They also carry a three-year warranty to offer developers peace-of-mind when specifying. Samples are available from Recom’s authorised distributors.
Recom Power supplies a range of DC/DC and AC/DC converters in every power class up to 480W, as well as switching regulators and LED drivers. Innovations such as Recom’s R-78 switching regulators have become industry standard.

The Recom headquarters in Gmunden, Austria house a logistics centre and laboratory wing.
