ReDrivers reduce intersymbol interference

Targeted at the industrial, embedded, and consumer markets for use in laptops, tablet PCs, desktop PCs and gaming devices, Diodes Incorporated’s PI3EQX1004E and PI3EQX1002E are USB 3.2 compliant, 5Gbps to 10Gbps, 2-Port/1-Port, linear ReDrivers.

The devices offer adjustable linear equalisation, output swing, and flat gain to boost performance over various physical media by reducing intersymbol interference. Diodes says these tiny ReDrivers save board space by using packages that are up to 64 per cent smaller than those traditionally used for similar products.

The PI3EQX1004E/1002E are built using Diodes’ patented technology, which enables them to extend PCB trace lengths while helping to keep cost and power consumption to a minimum. Linear ReDrivers can also deliver lower latency.

Using a supply voltage of 3.3V ±0.3V, PI3EQX1004E comes in a 34-contact UQFN (4.5mm x 2.5mm) package and is priced at $1.75 each in 1,000 piece quantities. The PI3EQX1002E is offered in a 24-contact UQFN (2.5mm x 2.5mm) package and is priced at $1.20 each in 1000 piece quantities.

The ReDriver, also known as a repeater IC, regenerates signals to boost the signal quality of high-speed interfaces. Faster signal frequencies leave designers with less signal margin to design reliable, high-performance systems.

Using equalisation, pre-emphasis, and other technologies, a single ReDriver can adjust and correct for known channel losses at the transmitter and restore signal integrity at the receiver. This enables reliable communications with low bit error rates.

Diodes Incorporated manufactures and supplies high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete, logic, analogue and mixed-signal semiconductor markets.

Products include diodes, rectifiers, transistors, mosfets, protection devices, function-specific arrays, single gate logic and amplifiers and comparators.

In addition the companies offers Hall-effect and temperature sensors and power management devices, including LED drivers, AC-DC converters and controllers, DC-DC switching and linear voltage regulators, and voltage references along with special function devices, such as USB power switches, load switches, voltage supervisors, and motor controllers.
