Rohm offers first series of EcoGaN 150V GaN HEMTs

The first series of the EcoGaN family contributes to lower power consumption and greater miniaturisation in data centres and base stations, said Rohm, as it introduced the GNE10xxTB series of 150V GaN HEMTs.

The GNE10xxTB series (GNE1040TB) increases the gate withstand voltage (rated gate source voltage) to 8V, claimed to be an industry leading level.

The HEMTs use an original structure that raises the rated gate source voltage from the conventional 6.0 to 8.0V. As a result, degradation is prevented, even if overshoot voltages exceeding 6.0V occurs during switching, claimed Rohm. This contributes to improved design margin and higher reliability in power supply circuits. The GNE10xxTB series is offered in a versatile package with heat dissipation and large current capability, facilitating handling during the mounting process.

The HEMTs are suitable for data centres seeking to reduce energy consumption. Rohm says it will continue to improve power supply efficiency in power sources by combining with proprietary Nano Pulse Control analogue power supply technology, creating a major technological trend that will help the semiconductor and telecommunications industries become carbon neutral by 2040, continued Rohm.
EcoGaN refers to GaN devices that contribute to energy conservation and miniaturisation by maximising the low ON resistance and high speed switching characteristics of GaN, with the goals of reducing application power consumption, miniaturising peripheral components, and reducing design load and the number of parts required.

Rohm Semiconductor develops and manufactures a large product range from SiC diodes and MOSFETs, analogue ICs such as gate drivers and power management ICs to power transistors and diodes to passive components.

There are manufacturing plants in Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and China. Lapis Technology (former OKI Semiconductor), SiCrystal and Kionix are companies of the Rohm Semiconductor Group. Rohm Semiconductor Europe has its head office near Dusseldorf serving the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
