RS Components teams with Siemens to offer Arduino for IoT gateways
The IoT gateway, manufactured by Siemens, is available through the distributor RS Components for students and the maker community.
RS Components announces that store.Arduino.cc has been appointed as official global reseller of the Simatic SIMATIC IOT2020 IoT industrial gateway from Siemens.
RS Components, the sole supplier of the Simatic IOT2020, has signed a contract with Arduino.cc, enabling the company to market the industrial gateway product via the Arduino.cc shop and other sources.
The IOT2020 is an open and flexible industrial IoT gateway that is designed for continuous industrial operation and can be used to retrieve, process, analyse and send data to almost any kind of device or network. It offers a variety of interfaces, including Ethernet, USB and micro SD, and is compatible with open-source software including the Arduino IDE and Yocto Linux, and uses programming in high-level languages such as Java, C++ and JSON. The IOT2020 is also expandable with Arduino shields via an on-board PCIe port.
The IOT2020 has industrial certifications and UL and CE approval. Students can gain experience of practical industrial development, while start-ups and makers can develop ideas into professional applications and projects.
“RS has been a long-time partner for Arduino, as well as providing excellent support for the large community of developers working with Arduino hardware and software,” said Massimo Banzi, co-founder of Arduino. “The new IOT2020 . . . provides a great way for young engineers to get started and become immersed in the industrial IoT.”
“Arduino is the perfect partner for RS Components, says Paolo Carnovale, head of product marketing – industrial division at the distributor. . . Arduino has the global reputation and the right kind of reach to deliver ‘learning’ products and technology to these markets.”
RS Components and Allied Electronics are the trading brands of Electrocomponents.
