RTOS consolidates services for automotive ECUs
Green Hills Software has announced support for MicroSAR from Vector on its Integrity RTOS platform. The two companies have collaborated to make the Integrity RTOS capable of native execution of MicroSAR, the AutoSAR basic software from Vector. As a result, it is possible to run MicroSAR on Integrity-based ECUs (electronic control units) and consolidate vehicle services on just one microcontroller to simplify and reduce the cost of implementation of OEM-specific services.
According to the company, ECUs for domain controllers, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), next-generation digital clusters and modern infotainment systems will benefit from enabling MicroSAR features for automotive requirements, including the ability to realise OEM-specific diagnostic services, time-sensitive applications for streaming media data – such as audio video bridging (AVB) – and applications using specific automotive protocols including SOME/IP.
The latest generation of ECUs have increasing demands for computing power and memory, for example, dynamic memory management is often a requirement for new application areas. ECU designs with AutoSAR OS often supplement sophisticated systems that use increasingly powerful microprocessors. To address this need, many systems make use of two separate microcontrollers to run MicroSAR and Integrity in parallel. With support from Green Hills Software, the ISO 26262 and IEC 61508-certified Integrity RTOS and MicroSAR can be integrated seamlessly and are able to deliver reduced system costs by sharing a single controller.
Vector’s support for new automotive-specific communication mechanisms, such as SOME/IP and service discovery, means that Integrity-based ECUs can immediately interact with these new, service-oriented AutoSAR clients.
Streaming video or audio data in a car network is becoming a standard requirement for instrument clusters and infotainment systems. AV broadcasting systems have strict requirements for timing, shaping and quality of service (QoS) of IP streams. With the MicroSAR basic software for Ethernet, Integritty-based ECUs are now able to fully support AVB (audio video bridging) functionality.
