Sponge connectors reduce PCB bowing
Self-supporting sponge connectors from Fujipoly provide a low-force option for connecting LCDs to circuit boards. The physical characteristics of the sponge dramatically reduce bowing of the PCB, claims the company, due to the minimal force required to make full electrical contact. This also makes the connector suitable for high-vibration environments and handheld devices.
Each connector is made from an electrically conductive Zebra core that is supported by a low compression force silicone sponge on either one or two sides. The soft supports create a larger base width and eliminate the need to install a separate holder. The connector is available in a large selection of widths to accommodate LCDs with a minimum glass lip overhang of 0.060inch or 1.5mm.
The carbon-based connectors provide a current carrying capacity of 0.050mA per 0.040 x .040inch pad and can be specified with 140, 240 or 500 conductive layers per inch.
