ST’s surge suppression line is available from RS Components

Small, flat package transient voltage suppressors (TVS) from STMicroelectronics are designed to handle transients in protection circuitry and power line applications. The company’s portfolio of TVS Flat devices are now available from distributor, RS Components.

They have been designed to handle 8/20 and 10/1,000 micro second voltage transients in order to protect circuits and equipment from power surges. ST’s portfolio of electrical over-stress (EOS) TVS Flat devices includes industrial and automotive grade products. The TVS Flat package variants are only 1.0mm thick and have a footprint compatible with standard surface-mount devices including SMA (400 and 600W types) and SMB (600W) style packages.

The TVS Flat range enables design engineers to deliver the same level of protection and save costs by using, for example, a smaller 600W SMA Flat device rather than a larger standard SMB style component. Both SMA Flat and SMB Flat devices are able to manage 600W. This means these devices can be a used in a wide range of applications including solar inverters and industrial control applications, ST says.

They are also suitable for thinner designs, and in circuitry for DC line, MOSFET and IGBT protection circuits in diverse markets, such as motor control, power tools, e-bikes and telecommunications, as well as consumer devices or equipment such as hard disk drives.

The TVS Flat devices deliver increased power density, says ST, with a maximum junction temperature (TJ max) of up to +175 degrees C to meet or exceed international standards to protect sensitive equipment against EOS and electrostatic discharges (ESD).

The ST TVS Flat package portfolio is shipping now from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.

RS Components is a trading brand of Electrocomponents. It offers more than 500,000 industrial and electronic products, sourced from over 2,500 leading suppliers and provides a range of value-added services to over one million customers. It has operations in 32 countries and ships over 50,000 parcels a day.
