Sub-compact board accelerates edge IoT deployment, says Aaeon

Four M.2 expansion slots are included in the GENE-EHL5 3.5-inch sub-compact board by Aaeon. It is powered by Intel Atom x6000E Series, Pentium and Celeron N and J series (formerly Elkhart Lake) processors.

The board has been introduced to accelerate edge IoT deployments for clients, said Aaeon. It is claimed to deliver up to 40 per cent greater performance than earlier generations particularly with regard to single-and multi-thread performances and graphical capabilities to meet edge IoT requirements, said the company.

One of the four M.2 sockets supports 5G network module for 5G mobile edge computing. In addition, Gene-EHL5 has a nano SIM card slot that can support a 5G SIM card, to further 5G connectivity in real-world deployments. For wired connectivity, Gene-EHL5 has dual Intel i210 GbE controllers for industrial-grade LAN connectivity for embedded applications.

To shorten the time-to-market deployment, Gene-EHL5 offers customisable display configurations with one HDMI 2.0 port plus one VGA or DP 1.4 port and one eDP or LVDS port by options. It also supports up to three simultaneous displays for vision-intensive applications. The internal eMMC, touch controller and TPM (trusted platform module) offer an integrated solution to shorten the design-in process, said Aaeon.

Established in 1992, Aaeon designs and manufactures industrial IoT and AI edge computing platforms including industrial motherboards and systems, rugged tablets, embedded AI edge systems, uCPE network appliances, and LoRaWAN / WWAN products. The company also provides experience and knowledge to provide OEM / ODM services worldwide. It also works closely with cities and governments to develop and deploy smart city ecosystems.

Aaeon works closely with premier chip designers to deliver stable, reliable platforms, and is recognised as an Associate member of the Intel Internet of Things Solutions Alliance.
