Super-junction MOSFETs are engineered for energy saving topologies
Engineered for high efficiency in medium-power resonant and hard-switching converter topologies, the MDmesh M6 600V super-junction transistors have been released by STMicroelectronics.
The threshold voltage optimised for soft switching makes the transistors suitable for LLC resonant converters and boost-PFC converters in energy-conscious applications. According to STMicroelectronics, the MDmesh M6 MOSFETs perform efficiently in hard-switching topologies. The capacitance profile enhances light-load efficiency and gate charge (Qg) as low as 16 nC, permitting high switching frequencies.
The M6 super-junction technology helps reduce RDS(ON) to as little as 0.036Ohm, for extra efficiency gains and increasing power density in battery chargers, power adapters, PC power supplies, LED-lighting drivers, telecomms and server power supplies, and solar micro-inverters.
Package options include the space saving, thermally efficient, leadless TO-LL, and popular through-hole and surface-mount packages including DPAK, D2PAK, TO-220, TO-247, and PowerFLAT. The JEDEC-registered TO-LL power-package outline has a 30 per cent smaller footprint and 50 per cent lower height than the D²PAK seven-pin package, allowing more compact and space-efficient power converters. With low parasitic inductances, TO-LL helps minimise electromagnetic interference, adds STMicroelectronics.
