Surface-mount high current chokes suit compact designs

A series of 10 chokes have been added to the Epcos ERU surface mount range of   power inductors. They have a footprint of just 17.3 x 18.7mm, and low insertion heights of 7.55mm (1.0micro H) to 10.95mm (30micro H), depending on the type. This low-profile design is based on a flat rectangular helical winding technology which results in lower losses, says the company.

The DC resistances are between 1.05 and 15.35mΩ. With the new ERU16 types the company expands its offering of ERT power inductors, alongside the existing ERU13, ERU19, ERU20 and ERU25 series.

The ERU16 high-current chokes are designed for operating temperatures of between -40 and +150 degree C. An additional third soldering pad is claimed to result in high mechanical stability on the PCB. They can be used as output and storage chokes in a wide variety of power supply topologies, including PoL converters, DC/DC convererters, high current switch-mode power supplies, solar converters and xEV applications.

The new series is RoHS-compatible and qualified to AEC-Q200.
