Surge and safety MLCCs meet industrial demands
Knowles brand, Syfer, offers MLCCs, for non-safety critical applications, up to 500V AC, 50/60Hz continuous.
Syfer pioneered 250V AC rated MLCCs for non-safety critical applications to complement its range of industry standard DC rated and TUV/UL-qualified class X and Y surge and safety MLCCs. The non-safety range offers MLCCs rated for 250V AC 50/60Hz with an increased capacitance range compared to the safety approved range, which is suitable for applications where the rigorous safety approvals were not necessary.
In response to customer demands, the company now targets non-safety critical applications up to 500V AC 60Hz continuous where extended capacitance values are required, up to 47nF.
Suitable for use in 440 and 480V AC three-phase type industrial electronics applications where a 500V AC rating would provide a comfortable margin. Launch range is 10nF maximum in the 1812 case size, to a maximum of 47nF in case size 2220. Knowles has already announced that other values will follow, although excluding smaller case sizes will not be possible, due to electro-mechanical issues with high voltages.
Whilst not qualified to any external specification, the range does include a surge impulse rating of 1kV (1.2×50µS).
The inclusion of this range now gives Knowles the largest range of AC rated MLCCs, says the company, in the market, including 250 and 500V AC non-safety as well as their qualified surge and safety range which offers the highest value class Y2 MLCC available today.
