TDK offers compact SMT common mode chokes for low-voltage DC/DC converters

TDK Corporation presents three new B8272 series of compact EPCOS SMT common-mode chokes specially developed for low-voltage applications. They sustain voltages of up to 48V AC (50/60Hz) and 80V DC, and continuous currents of between 1.8A and 19A at an ambient temperature of 40 degrees C.

They cover a range of inductance values between 0.59mH and 5.6mH. The company claims the compact dimensions of the new EMC components are particularly noteworthy. Depending on the type, the surface area required is just between 12.7 x 12.7mm and 30.99 x 25.4mm, with heights of 5.46mm to 12.7mm.

The design and materials of the RoHS-compatible EMC components comply with plastics flammability standard UL 94 V-0 and offer a relatively high leakage inductance of up to 1.2 per cent of the nominal inductance, which suppresses common mode interference. The common-mode chokes can be used in DC/DC converter and are available in surface mount (SM) versions.

Based in Tokyo, Japan, TDK was established in 1935 to commercialise ferrite, a key material in electronic and magnetic products. TDK‘s comprehensive portfolio features passive components, such as ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The product spectrum also includes sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors. In addition, TDK provides power supplies and energy devices, magnetic heads and more. These products are marketed under the brands TDK, EPCOS, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda. TDK focuses on automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, and information and communication technology markets.
