Test adapter is suitable for SMARC 2.0 CoMs

Yamaichi Electronics has developed a test adapter for the SMARC (Smart Mobility ARChitecture) computer on module (CoM) standard. It is also suitable for the current version SMARC 2.0, advises Yamaichi. The test adapter aligns the contacts and allows for 100 per cent contacting reliablity. Due to the use of spring probe pins, says Yamaichi, very high contact cycles can be reached.

The SMARC specification published by the Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies (SGET) for computer-on-modules (CoMs) regulates low power consumption of the modules due to the implementation of Arm or other low-power processors.

Yamaichi Electronics´ SMARC test adapter is an impedance-controlled test system according to the SGET SMARC specification. It is durable and reliable as a contact system, says Yamaichi. As it is volume test ready it can increase the test output considerably, thereby reducing the cost per tested module. Furthermore its operation is easy and secure.

This test adapter within the YED900 series of Yamaichi Electronics´ test adapter series can be used for applications such as evaluation bench tests, module programming and reliability tests from -30 up to +85 degree C.

The socket is designed with compression mount technology (CMT), and therefore no soldering is needed. Selected materials like aircraft aluminum, PEEK and ceramic PEEK make the adapter robust, adds Yamaichi.

SMARC modules have gold pads as contacting surface. The best contact technology for such surface areas are fine pitch probe pins. Semiconductor testing shows the pins to have a very long life time. The lifetime for the SMARC test adapter is specified up to 50k mechanical cycles.

For contacting the module pads, a conical type plunger tip is commonly used. By using this tip only a very small witness mark is formed on the module contact pad.

Besides module test adapters Yamaichi Electronics offers test contactors and burn-in sockets. The spring probe pins used in these adapters and sockets are manufactured by Yamaichi Electronics. They are for all pitches even down to 0.30mm ultra fine pitch. All spring probe pins and also Kelvin type pins guarantee reliable contacts, very high mating cycles and low contact resistance.
